Portrait sculpture commissioned by Fox for the creator of Family Guy

A sculptural study of Stewie Griffin, the iconic character from the television series Family Guy, created by Seth MacFarlane.
Commissioned by Fox as a birthday gift, the sculpture was presented to MacFarlane at the Family Guy studios in Los Angeles.

This stainless steel portrait sculpture combines Stewie Griffin with a bas-relief portrait medallion of Seth MacFarlane incorporated into the pedestal, physically linking the creator with the character he brought to life.

The sculpture was developed and completed on an accelerated timeline in advance of MacFarlane’s October 28 birthday.

The work reflects a broader aspect of Becker’s practice: portrait sculpture connecting cultural figures with the works or institutions for which they are known.

The sculpture also includes a small inscription on the reverse featuring a line spoken by Stewie Griffin:

“Life's confusing when you grow up, isn't it?”

A studio cast was produced and finished to resemble stainless steel before fabrication of the final piece.
