POW Monument Thoughts
During the installation and dedication, there were quite a few interviews and opportunities to share my thoughts on the POW monument and process. Below is an interview transcript for patch.com.
What, specifically, inspired the design? Was it a particular photograph, memory, something else?
The vets provided me with their stories, photos, books and even movies like "The Great Escape." Once we settled on the overall concept - depicting the liberation moment -- I asked them to write what it Read more [...]

More Behind the scenes....
Here are the photos I could find of the creation of the Homer bust.
My process was very non-linear partly because I decided to make the Homer head study as I was figuring out how to create the little Homer for Jim Brooks HoF plaque. So you'll see various progress photos of little sketchy Homer's on Jim's shoulder.
I can sequence these better if that will help and have larger versions of all of these images. A combination of phone pics and my point and shoot.
Cheers,
Richard

Veterans Museum Visit, POW Sculpture Unveiling Planning
Met with Abe Shragge yesterday at the San Diego Veterans Museum.
I gave them the slips of paper the veterans filled out for me, describing what it felt like to be liberated from a prisoner of war camp. The museum will keep these historical documents, which are very powerful. I can only imagine what it would be like to be imprisoned, starved, brutilized and then be freed.
If the sculpture can fit thru the doors, and all the approvals happen, the Vets will unveil "Liberation" (sans base) Saturday, Read more [...]
